Besides the obvious, like
better customer service, FREE Professional
Installation and FREE DVR and HDTV receivers, let me tell you a story...
My son has been a long time
DirecTV customer. I always had Dish Network myself. He had DirecTV at the last
house he lived at, a little over 2 years ago. He was moving out of
the country and sold his house, gave and sold away most of his
belongings, along with his DirecTV system.
He called DirecTV with the new
customer on the phone and had the account changed over into the new owner's
name. The rep he talked to said he'd be getting a small refund back
for part of that month which was prepaid. The house sold and closed about the 21st of
December 1999 and he was out of the country within 2 days.
Three months later, a friend
back in the US got a disconnect notice, addressed to him from DirecTV, along with a
letter demanding over $230 that was supposedly Past Due. His friend
politely explained that he sold the equipment, called in when he
did so and was not even in the country to be able to be watching DirecTV. The
billing department suggested that they were trying to "pull
the wool over his eyes."
Despite proof that he couldn't
be using their service and the fact that the serial numbers of the
equipment were registered to another customer, they continued to
demand payment. Letters went unanswered except for a very staunch one,
full of legalese, saying that it should have been done in writing.
The customer service rep at DirecTV didn't say a thing about that
previously.
It was turned over to a
collection agency who didn't reply to any letters of dispute and
finally to an attorney, at which time $100 was added to the bill!
This went on his credit report
as an unpaid bill and is still there after over 2 years. He is back
after 2 years as a missionary in Costa Rica, helping underprivileged
kids get off the streets and needless to say is not dealing with
DirecTV any more.
How can DirecTV be so COLD?
Doesn't anyone there have any
common sense?
Even if he was supposed to put
it in writing, why do they insist on charging for a service he
didn't use? They had told him previously, that he was one of their
oldest customers, And this is how they pay him for his loyalty?
Don't they understand how big a
move that was and how hard it was to make a major move like that?
Now, I'm sure you understand why
the Dish Network is his satellite company of choice! Even, all
other things being equal (which they're not - see below) would you
really want to deal with a company like that and possibly have your
credit rating ruined too?

What about Cable TV?
Besides constant price
increases, installation fees and ongoing outages and poor customer
service, why would you want to pay more for cable's poor service, than you would for DISH Network
which is better all around?
I
was reminded of another reason I like satellite TV better than Cable on
a recent vacation. I was at a hotel looking through the channel guide
and I realized that I had forgotten all about interactive menu with
DishTV and DirecTV. I couldn't hop from channel 7 up to 105 in a split
second. I had to wait for the guide to slowly work its way down to
channel 105.
Once
there I couldn't pull up a full description of the program. Most of the
time I couldn't even see a complete program name! How pathetic!
I
also couldn't group all of the movies together or sports programming,
news, etc.
I
also couldn't pull up a list of my favorite channels.
Cable
is a PIG! Go with ANY satellite company over CABLE.

The
following information came directly from a DirecTV dealer's website,
condemning his own company!
"We once found them to be a great service. Although they
recently experienced what appeared to be serious growing pains that
had really shaken many of their past customers confidence in their
customer service …
The History:
Their recently PAST customer service problems seemed to stem from
when DirecTV acquired USSB and Primestarand reportedly dismissed most of the old USSB/Primestar
workers.Quite
obviously, attempting to handle the huge operations of three
companies under acquisition while downsizing the workforce at the
same time placed DirecTV with a bit more on their hands than their
limited employees could keep up with (IE. Customer service
telephone lines).
Almost
Immediately after DirecTV’s acquisition of USSB/Primestar we
personally began receiving email from literally thousands
of their once most dedicated customers who had decided to bail on
DirecTV and switched to Dish Network and other satellite
choices. Some large dealers of DirecTV began boycotting the sale
of DirecTV equipment simply because they grew tired of being
stuck in the middle of unresolved disputes between programming
customers and DirecTV... Obviously fueled by DirecTV’s {then
limited & strained staff} seemingly abandoned their customer
support lines during the height of this mess.
Meanwhile,
(During these problems), ……. granted DirecTV’s customer base
was still undeniably growing, particularly in lieu of their
constantly forming new joint venture business ties with large
corporations (like Time Warner, AOL) and new publicity ties (Drew
Carey)
During
this time, the (Then falling) of DirecTV’s customer service
reputation seemed to have given their
biggest competitor [Dish Network] a running jump in popularity due
to Dish Network’s rather impressive customer support track
record. It seemed in a consumer’s market, many
didn’t subscribe to the idea of "Biggest is Best". With
the overwhelming number of complaints we were THEN getting from our
viewers concerning DirecTV & during the height of DirecTV’s
problems we were ourselves beginning to warn our viewers who
were considering purchasing their equipment & programming, that
DirecTV was experienced serious problems & consumers may wish
to consider waiting until DirecTV unburied themselves from the
extra strain they’re experiencing since their acquisition of USSB
& Primestar.
For
Example, we were receiving floods of feedback from viewers who were
experiencing billing errors, unable
to order Pay per View, and YET simply not able to then get
through and talk to a LIVE PERSON at DirecTV when they
experienced a service problem. We personally tested their then clogged
customer support lines ourselves and repeatedly dialed HUNDREDS of
times on numerous occasions receiving nothing but telephone
recordings advising us that DirecTV was CLOSED DURING BUSINESS
HOURS. Or, we would get to listen to elevator hold music for
exactly one hour before their lines would automatically disconnect
us so that we could redial to experience the same thing over again."

E-Mail
Address(s)??
Good Question!
DirecTV has not had a prominently
displayed customer service or support Email contact on their web
site in the last year. We searched it extensively for one
during the resent abandonment of their customer support phone lines
and the only address to be found was one to their human resource
dept. for applying for jobs. All mail sent to their directv.com
domain was noticed to be bounced back as undeliverable. They do
have a feedback form on their site which we’ve noticed the
address it delivers the form mail to is obviously intentionally
hidden in the source code so that the contact can not be
identified. If anyone ever finds a direct customer support email
address for DirecTV, please let us know so that we can post it for
our viewers benefit. Their feedback form is at the following link:
BUT, Be ADVISED you’ll likely not receive an answer (we never
have) as their own notation on the FORM
has always stated:
"We value your programming suggestions, but the volume of
E-mail we receive prevents us from responding to suggestions
individually."

Do NOT buy any satellite system
unless it meets the following criteria:
There is a lot of confusion
surrounding our field. I want to give you 3 important elements you
absolutely, positively must have before getting a satellite system.
One: Make sure you get it
for free! There are many dealers out there charging up to $300.00,
and some even more, for the same satellite dish system we offer you for free!
Two: Make sure the system
includes professional installation. There are many dealers that
offer you a free system, but then want to send you a self install
kit. Do you really want to climb on your roof, drill holes, and
risk damaging your house? Our free satellite dish system includes
free professional installation! You just sit back and let the
professional technician do all the work!
Three: Do not pay for
additional receivers: Many dealers will charge you an extra $100 to
$150.00 for each additional room. With our free satellite system
offer, you can get it installed in up to 4 rooms for no extra
charge! (Programming fees for each additional receiver is only an
extra $5.00 per month!)
You get at least 10 times your money's worth!
If you were to buy this

$299.00, plus an extra $149.00 to get it installed! If you order
from our website you only pay a one time activation fee of $49.99!
This includes your first 3 month's of programming, and free
